The First Few Months
JULIEN KENT JAMES ERICKSON: Born on November 3rd, 2001 at St. Lukes Hospital in Boise Idaho. He was born on the same day (13 years later) as his sister Britney. He had to be pulled out with a suction device and it created a 'jelly spot' on the back of his head. The jelly spot felt weird to touch but was harmless and it healed a short time later. His foot was bruised from where they had to inject various different monitoring tools. He spent his first night or two in the ICU unit. He also had yellowish skin (jaundice) and we had to monitor him for a while and give him breathing treatments in order to make sure he would be okay. The birthing experience was very hard on Sissy and at one point her blood pressure dropped to dangerously low levels and she actually went unconscious for one terrifying moment.

Julien update 10/09/02
Julien is now just over 11 months old and overall is very healthy and happy. Over the last few weeks he started getting a pretty bad cough and was having trouble breathing sometimes so he went to see the doctor. It was a good thing we took him to the doctor because he may possibly have damaged lungs from when he had the RSV a while back when he was just a few months old. We had to put him back on the breathing treatment to make sure his passages are open and he is breathing okay.

Grandpa Jerry built him a gorgeous crib which he sleeps in for now but he is just about getting too big for it.

Walking: Julien is a part time walker! He can take several steps now and stop himself without falling sometimes. He still crawls when he really wants to get somewhere but he is constantly testing his ability to walk.

Talking: He has been saying "dada" and "kidee" for some time but now he says a few other words. He says a few variations of "mama", it is usually a scream and is hard to decipher but I know it is mama. Mostly he just speaks his language.

Character: He loves to "rock out" when he hears music. It is indescribably funny and one just has to see it to really appreciate it. He loves the guitar and trying to strum the strings. He also likes to bust out a rythm on any flat surface he can find.

Julien update 1/09/2003: He is still breast feeding. He still loves to dance and sing with music and musical toys. I got a new keyboard for my birthday and Julien jumps right in and takes a shot at playing it. I think he is getting a little bit weened from being with his mom 24/7. We even left him with a friend for like 3 hours once and he did okay. He loves to go outside or in the garage with me and sometimes we will go visit the neighbors. He loves to read and play with mommy. He learned to drink from his sippy cup on his own a few months ago and now it is as easy for him as walking. He also loves it when mommy pushes him around on his little plastic riding toy that Grandma and Grandpa Willets got him. They also got him his own little chair that is just his size and he looks so proud when he sits in it. He knew right off it was his and he apparently knows what it is for although he tries to stand up on it sometimes when he knows he shouldn't. Julien is usually a little cautious around strangers or even people he knows well but doesn't see everyday. Once he has been around someone for a few minutes though he will generally warm up to them but of course he still seems most comfortable in the arms of his mommy. Sissy has been playing the 'Elmo's World' Sesame Street tape for him at bedtime and it is probably his favorite tape.

Walking: He has been fully walking for some time now. When we go out for walks he even kind of runs sometimes. At first he had trouble going from the sidewalk to the grass without falling especially with his boots on but now he can do it no problem and rarely falls.

Talking: He is making sentences but usually you cannot tell what he is trying to say. It is really cool when you do realize he did say something though, like he says "I did it", or "hi dad". He says a lot more than that but those are just some I know I've heard him say. He loves to laugh, especially with his sister. Britney can bring him to hysterical laughter probably better than me or his mom.
